Aber auch diese rätselhaften Erscheinungen würden sich wahrscheinlich nach dem für Pisum geltenden Gesetze erklären lassen, wenn man voraussetzen dürfte, dass die Blumen- und Samenfarbe des Ph. multiflorus aus zwei oder mehreren ganz selbstständigen Farben zusammengesetzt sei, die sich einzeln ebenso verhalten, wie jedes andere constante Merkmal an der Pflanze.
But even these puzzling phenomena might probably be explained according to the law that is valid for Pisum, if one were allowed to presuppose that the flower and seed colour of Ph. multiflorus was composed of two or more entirely autonomous colours, each of which behaves individually in the same way as every other constant trait in the plant.

Mendel’s use of this preposition suggests that his aim is not to directly explain the facts he has observed by the “law that is valid for Pisum”, but rather to find another instance in which the same kind of explanation can be applied as in earlier instances; see p. 32, s. 2.
