dotted = punctirt With respect to colour of the seed coats, Mendel highlights the hybrid character discussed on p. 11, s. 14; the other two characters, albumen colour and seed shape, seem less obviously dominant in this trihybrid cross, pointing to some genic interaction. Bateson, however, adds a note, speculating that Mendel did not directly observe the colour of the cotyledons (or of the albumen, as he assumes; see p. 8, s. 3), since for that he would have had to peel off the coat.
