The manuscript has a deleted der in front of von. One would normally expect an es after indem in the last clause; without it, the sentence lacks a proper subject.

Gärtner Carl Friedrich Gärtner, Versuche und Beobachtungen über die Bastarderzeugung im Pflanzenreich (Stuttgart: Hering, 1849), p. 252: “In relation to judgements of type, namely whether a hybrid is more similar to the mother or to the father, exact determination has great difficulties in some cases; since here much depends on the subjective outlook of the observer” (In Beziehung auf die Beurtheilung der Typen, ob nämlich ein Bastard mehr der Mutter oder mehr dem Vater ähnlich seie, hat die genaue Bestimmung in manchen Fällen grosse Schwierigkeit; indem hierin sehr Vieles auf die subjective Anschauung des Beobachters ankömmt). Use of the words “types” (Typen; see p. 38, s. 6) and “determination” (Bestimmung; see p. 10, s. 13) indicate that Gärtner looked at the problem, first and foremost, as a taxonomic one. intuition = Anschauung Bateson has “point of view”, Sherwood “viewpoint”. In philosophical contexts, Anschauung is usually be translated as “intuition”. This is quite adequate, since it was a word that the eighteenth-century German philosopher Christian Wolff introduced for the Latin intuitus. The term was popularized by Immanuel Kant, who defined intuitions as cognitions immediately related to individual object, and there seems to have been no other usage of it in the first half of the nineteenth century; see Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, Deutsches Wörterbuch, online-edition, s.v. “anschauung” (1852).
