Closing remarks = Schluss-Bemerkungen Bateson and Sherwood have “Concluding Remarks”. It is surprising how much the structure of Mendel’s paper resembles that of a modern biology paper, with a first section on materials and methods, the presentation of results, a discussion (previous section), and conclusions. Schluss can mean “conclusion”, but in the compound noun Mendel constructs here, it can only mean “end” or “close”.
