If the compromise is assumed to be a complete one, in the sense namely that the hybrid embryo is formed from cells of the same kind in which the differences are completely and stably mediated, then the further consequence would follow that the hybrid, like every other autonomous plant species, will remain constant in its progeny.
In the manuscript, only gänzlich und bleibend ver is underlined, before Mendel continues mittelt in a new line. This was probably just by accident, but it may be that Mendel wanted to emphasise gänzlich und bleibend only.
compromise = Ausgleichung See p. 41, s. 8.
of the same kind = gleichartigen See p. 41, s. 7.
would follow = würde sich […] ergeben The use of the subjunctive II here may indicate that Mendel had considerable doubts that these constant hybrids really existed. The grammar of the sentence as a whole is garbled, however. The auxiliary construction of würde sich ergeben seems unnecessary and in the last clause, one would expect bliebe instead of bleiben werde.
the hybrid = die Hybride Bateson has plural “hybrids”.
autonomous = selbstständige See p. 6, s. 1.
plant species = Pflanzenart See p. 6, s. 14.
constant = constant See p. 5, s. 5.
